Encore Parkway
Corridor Improvement Project
Overview
Start Date: January 2009
Completion Date: August 2017
Total CID Investment: $6,000,000
Details
The Encore Parkway Corridor Improvement project consists of enhancing the two-lane Encore Parkway between Westside Parkway and North Point Parkway and replacing the previously-existing bridge over GA 400. The new roadway includes two 14-foot travel lanes, two 6-foot bicycle lanes and two 8-foot sidewalks with landscaped buffers on each side and a raised, landscaped median. The Encore Parkway bridge was reconstructed to accommodate future GA 400 widening. The new bridge and roadway included trees, landscaping, pedestrian lighting, street furniture and architectural bridge elements, creating a more walkable environment while maintaining and enhancing crucial transportation features.
The improved connection will benefit those traveling from the growing collection of commercial, residential and entertainment areas west of GA 400 to the North Point Parkway commercial corridor east of GA 400, including the nearly 240,000 annual visitors who attend events at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. The connection creates the first east-west pedestrian/bicycle connection to Alpharetta’s popular Big Creek Greenway.
Construction on the project began on January 4, 2016. The bridge was closed from January 4 – November 23, 2016, to accommodate an aggressive construction schedule. In coordination with local business owners, the North Fulton CID held to the promised construction schedule to have the bridge reopened for car traffic by the 2016 holiday shopping season to accommodate increased traffic at North Point Mall. The project was fully completed in August 2017.
Financial Commitment
This North Fulton CID funded $6 million of this $17.9 million project.
