North Fulton CID Continues Area Improvements

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (July 1, 2013) –The North Fulton Community Improvement District (CID) has completed intersection improvements at Windward Parkway and North Point Parkway. The new, 4-lane intersection will help reduce congestion at the intersection, improving air quality and traffic flow in the area.

Prior to the project’s completion, workers and tourists leaving the ADP office complex and the Atlanta Marriott Alpharetta hotel caused major traffic backups on the north side of the intersection – especially during rush hour. Wait times for exiting workers could exceed 30 minutes.

Of the four new lanes, three are south-bound across Windward Parkway. One lane turns left onto Windward Parkway east, another leads straight onto North Point Parkway southbound and the third turns right onto Windward Parkway heading toward Georgia 400. An added provision of this project increased the efficiency of the traffic signal at the intersection, which will further reduce travel times along Windward Parkway. The City of Alpharetta significantly contributed to these signal timing improvements which led to important cost-savings for the project overall.

“The significance of this project extends beyond congestion mitigation at that point,” said Ann Hanlon, chief operating officer of the North Fulton CID. “It improves east-west traffic flow on Windward Parkway.

The CID partnered with the City of Alpharetta to fund the project, including the design and traffic engineering of the intersection improvements. Silverline Paving and Construction was hired to complete the project.
