North Fulton CID, North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, and Georgia Commute Options Host Lunch and Learn

On Wednesday, March 20, 2019, the North Fulton CID, along with the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce and Georgia Commute Options, hosted a “Lunch and Learn” to inform North Fulton employers and businesses of public of transportation projects in their area.
Tim Matthews, Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Program Manager, gave an update on their involvement with the Georgia Express Lanes projects, including the SR 400 Express Lanes. This project includes two express lanes in each direction between the North Springs MARTA Station and McGinnis Ferry Road, as well as one express lane in each direction from McGinnis Ferry Road to McFarland Parkway. He also spoke on the partnership between GDOT and the State Road and Tollway Authority who work closely through the design, construction, and operations of all of Georgia Express Lane Projects.
Colleen Kiernan, Senior Director Government & Community Affairs with MARTA, gave updates on the Fulton County Transit Master Plan, which focuses on expanding, improving and enhancing bus services in the area. She also spoke on the Georgia 400 Transit Initiative with next steps being to advance station design, identify station area park and rides and identify local funding. The potential stations for Georgia 400 transit include: Winward Parkway (offline), Old Milton Parkway (inline), North Point Mall (inline), Holcomb Bridge Road (inline) and North Springs.
Kristin Winzeler, North Fulton CID Program Director, shared what a community improvement district is, where funding comes from and who their partners are. She also gave updates on all North Fulton CID’s present and future projects in the area including Windward Parkway Phase II, Davis Drive, and the Old Ellis Extension.
The “Lunch and Learn” concluded with a presentation from Allie Velleca, Program Manager at Georgia Commute Options, which partners with employers to empower their employees to improve their commutes. Hundreds of Metro Atlanta employers and property managers are already partners. She provided information on the incentives and benefits of carpooling and the WAZE navigation app.
