Starting Monday, May 14, drivers headed south on Georgia 400 will be able to use a new “shoulder lane” between Holcomb Bridge Road and the North Springs MARTA Station. The south-bound right shoulder of the road is being converted to a lane that is open only during morning rush hour between 6:30 and 9:30 a.m., and only on weekdays.
North Fulton drivers will need to be extra cautious during the morning rush hour, when this new lane is open. The shoulder lane is ONLY available on Georgia 400 between the Holcomb Bridge Road entrance and the Northridge Road exit, where the lane stops. A new lane starts again between the Northridge Road entrance and the North Springs MARTA Station exit.
According to the AJC, “one could look at the project as providing extremely long new exit lanes for Northridge Road and the MARTA station.” About 2 ½ miles of shoulder lane have been added. Transit buses will continue to have access to the shoulder lane during these times. See the fact sheet from the Georgia DOT for more information here, or visit their web site, www.dot.ga.gov.
