Kerry Armstrong Elected to Chair Atlanta Regional Commission

December 5, 2013

Kerry Armstrong, chairman of the North Fulton Community Improvement District, was elected chairman of the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), the official planning agency for the 10-county Atlanta region, at the agency’s board meeting earlier today. His two-year term of office will begin January 1, 2014.

Mr. Armstrong has served on the ARC board since 2008 as a citizen member, representing a district that includes portions of Gwinnett County. He is co-chairman of the Atlanta Regional Workforce Board and also serves on ARC’s Environment & Land Use Committee and its Executive Committee. He is the second citizen member to serve as ARC chair, following Tad Leithead who chose not to run for a third two-year term.

“Four years ago, I was the first citizen member ever elected chairman of ARC,” said Mr. Leithead. “I think this election shows that the citizen member experiment was a success and that citizen members are uniquely qualified to represent the entire region. Kerry has tremendous experience in both the business and civic life of metro Atlanta. He is truly committed to collaboration and to the region, both of which will serve ARC well.”

Prior to joining Pope & Land Enterprise as a senior vice president in 2012, Mr. Armstrong held the same position at Duke Realty. He is a member of several key organizations in the commercial real estate industry, including the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP), the Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors, CoreNet and the Urban Land Institute.

Mr. Armstrong also is actively involved in numerous civic, educational and charitable organizations. He is the chair of the North Fulton Community Improvement District and serves as director and past chair of the Council for Quality Growth. He is a director and past chair of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce and a director for the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Armstrong also serves on the board of the Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation and is a trustee of the Georgia Gwinnett College Foundation.

Mr. Armstrong holds a Bachelor’s degree from Purdue University.
